Purple Apple Award winner
Middlebrook Retail and Leisure Park, Bolton, owned by The Emerson Group, has clinched an award equivalent to an Oscar at the annual shopping centre awards ceremony, the British Council of Shopping Centre’s (BCSC) Purple Apples, in London.
Middlebrook was competing with more than 120 centres from around the UK and was the only shopping centre in Greater Manchester to be recognised at the awards dinner after beating local competition from Bolton Market Place.
The centre scooped the award, a Purple Apple Merit, for its Greenest Heroes campaign, which ran in May 2007 in conjunction with the local press, The Bolton News. The campaign asked readers to nominate the Greenest Community Group, Work Place, School and individual. An outstanding success the park turned the front page of the Bolton News Green on its launch and received daily coverage for six weeks featuring many of it retailers as case studies. The campaign received high praise from The Prime Minister, Tony Blair.
Heather Ingham, marketing and PR manager, who received the award on the night, commented: “This is a fantastic achievement for Middlebrook Retail and Leisure Park and I’m thrilled that our Greenest Heroes campaign has been recognised”
Judges at the awards ceremony praised the campaign for highlighting the importance of recycling and engaging the local community in a fun and innovative initiative.
Heather concludes: “I’m very proud to be bringing this award back to Greater Manchester and delighted to be sharing our best practice with shopping centres and retail and leisure parks from around the UK.”
The Emerson Group encourages all its shoppers to think greener and get involved in recycling at retailers across its portfolio that includes Middlebrook Retail and Leisure Park and Lowry Outlet Mall in Manchester. |
